LIKUPANG – The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy / Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, directly tested sports facilities in Likupang to ensure the area is ready to host the Indonesia Triathlon Series 2021 event.
Sandiaga Uno does Aquathlon (swimming and running) in Likupang, which is one of the five super priority destinations. The activity which took place in the Paradise Beach area is part of the trial implementation of the Indonesia Triathlon Indonesia Series which will begin this month in various destinations in Indonesia.
“We have just completed the Likupang Mini triathlon tryout which is a warm-up for the Indonesian triathlon series which we will kick-off this March in Belitung,” said Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno, Saturday (6/32021).
Accompanied by a number of athletes from the city of Manado, Menparekraf Sandiaga did swimming in the sea as far as 1,054 meters and then continued with a 5 kilometer run.
From the results of the trials he conducted, Likupang is considered ready to host the implementation of this sports-based tourism activity (sport tourism).
“The waves were quite challenging, adding to the sensation of swimming in open water. Earlier in the middle of the coral, it was still very natural, very good. We can see the colorful fish which is a beautiful underwater view,” said Sandiaga Uno.
He further assessed that the Likupang area is also suitable for future development as a location for Meeting, Incentive, Exhibition and Event (MICE) activities.
“So my hope is that this activity can spread hope, spread the momentum of the revival of tourism. Along with the decline in the number of COVID-19 transmission, we are reactivating tourism to improve the people’s economy, create jobs. And the most important thing is the spirit to rise, that tourism is part of it. of the solution, not part of the problem, “said Sandiaga Uno.
The Indonesia Triathlon Series is a collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy with local governments and the Indonesian Triathlon community. The first series will begin in Belitung on March 13, 2021 and will continue throughout the year in various destinations in Indonesia. Among them, besides Belitung are Kendari, Palembang and Likupang.
In its implementation, the Indonesia Triathlon Series will be carried out by implementing strict health protocols. Starting from restricting participants, health checks, disinfecting equipment, to implementing the travel bubble concept in the handling of participants.
The implementation in Likupang is planned to take place in May 2021. ***
