Bank Mandiri Prepares Payment System for Foreign Tourist Levy; Governor Koster: “Suksma, Let’s Protect Quality Tourism”

Denpasar — Bank Mandiri has confirmed its full support for the implementation of Bali’s Foreign Tourist Levy (PWA), with the bank finalizing an integrated payment system scheduled to go live starting Monday (24 November 2025). The commitment was conveyed by Alexander Jonathan Patty, Regional CEO of Bank Mandiri Region XI/Bali and Nusa Tenggara, during the signing of a Cooperation Agreement with Bali Governor Wayan Koster at Jayasabha on Sunday (23/11).

“We expect the system to be fully operational as early as tomorrow. This is part of our support for the implementation of the PWA in Bali,” Patty said.

Bank Mandiri will provide a comprehensive payment infrastructure integrated with official platforms such as We Love Bali, enabling online payments prior to arrival as well as on-site payment options at airports, seaports, tourism sites, and accommodation centers.

The agreement marks an important step in enforcing Regional Regulation No. 2/2025, which requires foreign tourists to pay a levy of Rp150,000 per visitor. The levy is designed to strengthen Bali’s funding for cultural preservation, environmental protection, tourism quality improvements, waste management, and operational costs related to the PWA.

Governor Koster emphasized that Bali is the first region in Indonesia to implement a foreign tourist levy based on regional regulation, calling it a forward-looking policy to ensure sustainable tourism.

“Thank you to Bank Mandiri for this significant initiative. This collaboration strengthens the implementation of the PWA and supports Bali’s efforts to maintain a tourism ecosystem that is high-quality, culturally grounded, and sustainable,” Koster said.

Flexible Payment Options for Foreign Tourists

Foreign tourists may pay the levy before arriving in Bali through online services or upon arrival at designated entry points. Additional payment facilities at hotels and key tourist attractions ensure convenience while improving data accuracy.

All funds collected from the PWA will be allocated to:

  • Preservation of Balinese culture

  • Protection and restoration of natural environments

  • Enhancement of tourism facilities and services

  • Waste management and sustainability efforts

With the implementation of the PWA and Bank Mandiri’s technological support, the Bali Provincial Government reinforces its commitment to building a more responsible, high-quality, and sustainable tourism ecosystem for the future.***
