DENPASAR — Bali Governor Wayan Koster has expressed strong support for the upcoming Prama Sanur Beach Marathon, a major sport tourism event scheduled to take place on 8 February 2026, which is expected to attract 4,500 runners from around the world.
Governor Koster conveyed his endorsement during a meeting with the management of Prama Sanur Beach on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, at the Bali Governor’s Office in Denpasar. He emphasized the importance of thorough and professional preparation to ensure the success of the international sporting event.
“This is a very positive initiative to increase tourist arrivals to Bali through marathon-based sport tourism,” Governor Koster said. “Going forward, events like this should be developed collectively, as sport tourism will become an integral part of Bali’s global tourism promotion.”
The Prama Sanur Beach Marathon is jointly initiated by 45 running communities, highlighting strong grassroots participation alongside institutional support. Representing the organizer, Panca R. Sarungu reported that the event has already confirmed participants from 32 countries, underscoring its growing international appeal.
A total of 4,500 runners will take on the scenic race route spanning Mertasari Beach, Ngurah Rai Bypass, and Mounting Siokan, offering participants a unique experience that combines competitive running with Bali’s coastal landscapes.
“In addition to international runners, we are also welcoming around 1,000 participants from outside Bali,” Sarungu said. “We sincerely appreciate the support of Bali Governor Wayan Koster for endorsing this sport tourism initiative, which we believe will further strengthen Bali’s position as a global destination for international sporting events.”
Beyond promoting athletic excellence, the Prama Sanur Beach Marathon is expected to generate significant economic impact for Denpasar and surrounding areas, while reinforcing Bali’s reputation as a leading destination for sport tourism, wellness, and sustainable travel experiences.***
