Digitalization Meets Culture: QRIS Cultural Journey Indonesia Bali 2025 Successfully Held

DENPASAR – The Bank Indonesia Representative Office in Bali has successfully hosted the QRIS Cultural Journey Indonesia (QJI) – Bali Digital Island 2025 on 23–31 August 2025. Held simultaneously across all Bank Indonesia representative offices nationwide, the event showcased the synergy between digital payment transformation and the preservation of local culture.

The Bali edition of QJI engaged 180 participants divided into 60 youth teams who embarked on thematic missions focused on QRIS education, the Love, Proud, Understand Rupiah movement, consumer protection, licensed money changer awareness, and the introduction of Bali’s rich cultural heritage.

The event officially opened on 23 August 2025 at Jerman Beach, Kuta, led by Bank Indonesia Bali Advisor Indra Gunawan Sutarto, alongside the Assistant for Economy and Development of the Bali Provincial Secretariat, Dr. Luh Ayu Aryani.

“Young generations are expected to become agents of change in adopting digital transactions, particularly through QRIS, which is easier, safer, and more practical—while at the same time promoting local culture, culinary experiences, and tourism,” said Indra. As of July 2025, Bali has recorded more than 1 million QRIS users and nearly 1 million merchants, with transaction volumes reaching 64 million since the start of the year.

Dr. Luh Ayu Aryani expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting: “With collaboration between Bank Indonesia, the Bali Provincial Government, banking institutions, academia, and the community, we are optimistic that digitalization will become a driver of Bali’s economic growth.”

QJI Bali 2025 was carried out through six main missions:

  1. Guardians of Tourism – Regulating Money Changers, educating on Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF), raising awareness about licensed foreign exchange providers, and promoting Rupiah use among foreign tourists.

  2. QRIS Tap on The Move, introducing digital payment to Trans Metro Dewata (TMD) passengers.

  3. Our Love for Rupiah, promoting Love, Proud, Understand Rupiah in Badung Market.

  4. QRIS Goes Global, highlighting QRIS cross-border usage at the iconic Uluwatu Kecak Dance stage.

  5. Cultural QRIS Quest, introducing Balinese culture and cuisine at Penglipuran Tourism Village.

  6. Lembongan Digital Island Hunt, fostering digital ecosystems and consumer protection awareness in Nusa Lembongan.

The activities were met with high enthusiasm, combining digital education with cultural and tourism exploration. The creativity, energy, and collaboration across communities made QJI Bali 2025 not only an educational initiative but also a memorable cultural adventure.
