THE Covid-19 pandemic was one of the most challenging times for the tourism industry, including for I Ketut Ardana. Yet instead of losing hope, Ardana chose to see opportunity amid the crisis. Together with his children and family, he sought to find something positive in the difficult times — to realign his direction and rethink the future of tourism in the post-pandemic era.
From that reflection came a single idea: open-air tourism would become the new trend. People would seek green spaces, fresh air, and experiences that bring them closer to nature. With this belief, Ardana decided to make use of his family’s four-hectare plot of land in Plaga, North Badung.
The cool, lush property was then transformed into Pelaga Eco Park — a nature-based destination that blends the beauty of Bali’s highland landscape with a modern and eco-friendly touch. The park features a restaurant, glamping (glamorous camping) area, picnic grounds, and most recently, a natural swimming pool to enhance the visitor experience.
One of its highlights is a wide riverside field where visitors can pitch tents and enjoy the night under an open sky. For those seeking more comfort, the glamping facilities offer a luxurious stay surrounded by nature, without compromising the park’s eco-conscious principles.
Through Pelaga Eco Park, Ardana once again demonstrates his sharp vision in anticipating the direction of the tourism industry. From a time of crisis emerged an innovation that reinforces the message that Bali’s tourism is not only about beaches and luxury — it is also about reconnecting with nature and embracing sustainability. **
