TABANAN — A new light now shines in Banjar Sedahan, Tajen Village, Penebel District, Tabanan, as PT PLN (Persero) through its Bali Distribution Main Unit (UID Bali) provided free electricity connections for underprivileged households under the program “Sharing Light, Growing Hope.” The initiative forms part of the company’s celebration of the 80th National Electricity Day (Hari Listrik Nasional / HLN).
A total of seven families in Tabanan Regency received free electricity connections, symbolically inaugurated at two locations — Tajen Village and Marga Tua Village.
PLN’s Director of Technology, Engineering, and Sustainability, Evy Haryadi, said the initiative represents PLN’s nationwide commitment to ensuring equitable energy access for all Indonesian citizens.
“This program is part of PLN’s national effort to provide fair access to electricity. Specifically in Bali, we want the community to be able to enjoy electricity independently and use it to improve their livelihoods. Bali’s electricity demand continues to rise, reflecting positive economic growth,” Evy explained.
Evy emphasized that as electricity demand increases, system reliability must also be strengthened.
“PLN is preparing additional power plants and transmission networks to reinforce Bali’s electricity system. We hope these efforts will further stimulate regional economic growth, particularly in Tabanan,” she added.
Meanwhile, General Manager of PLN UID Bali, Eric Rossi Priyo Nugroho, stated that the event in Tabanan marks the culmination of PLN’s 80th HLN celebration and a tangible manifestation of the company’s social responsibility.
“As part of the 80th HLN celebration, we are providing free electricity connections for residents in need. Today, we symbolically activated the electricity for seven beneficiary households,” Eric said.
He explained that several residents previously relied on shared electricity from neighboring houses because they were unable to afford independent connections.
“Through this program, we hope to empower families economically, boost productivity, and provide children the opportunity to study at night without worrying about darkness,” Eric added.
He reaffirmed PLN’s commitment to ensuring that every Balinese household enjoys true energy independence.
“PLN is here today in full force to deliver this support directly. We hope the electricity provided will be used wisely and bring lasting benefits to the community,” he said.
Deputy Regent of Tabanan, I Made Dirga, representing Regent Dr. I Komang Gede Sanjaya, SE., M.M., expressed appreciation for PLN’s continued social care programs.
“We truly appreciate PLN’s ongoing social initiatives in Tabanan. This program does not only provide free electricity connections but also connects hope and uplifts the spirit of our community,” Dirga stated.
He added that the local government looks forward to continuing collaboration with PLN to expand access to electricity and improve community welfare across all districts.
One of the beneficiaries’ relatives, Sunarta Atmaja, expressed his gratitude on behalf of his nephew, I Made Sudinarta, whose house was among those connected.
“Previously, my nephew’s house shared electricity with neighbors. Now, he finally has his own connection. We sincerely thank PLN for this support,” he said.
In addition to the electricity connections, PLN also distributed social assistance packages to the Gayatri Widya Mandala Foundation and provided basic food aid (sembako) for underprivileged families in the Tabanan area.
Through “Sharing Light, Growing Hope,” PLN reaffirms its commitment to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 7 — Affordable and Clean Energy, bringing light that fosters a better life for all communities in Bali.
“PLN will continue to light up hope — not only through electricity but by empowering communities and improving their quality of life,” Evy concluded.***
