PADANG — Chairperson of the West Sumatra Provincial House of Representatives (DPRD Sumbar), Muhidi, emphasized that recovery efforts following recent floods and landslides in West Sumatra are currently racing against time and weather cycles.

To ensure an accelerated recovery process, the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Plan (R3P) document is targeted to be completed and finalized by January 8, allowing immediate implementation across all affected areas.

Muhidi urged residents who have been impacted by the disaster but have not yet been listed as aid recipients to proactively report their situation to on-site officers.

“Data accuracy is crucial, as the implementation of physical repairs to public facilities, including schools, will be adjusted to weather forecasts issued by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to avoid technical obstacles during construction,” he said during an interview on Wednesday (January 7).

Based on BMKG data, rainfall intensity during January and February is predicted to be relatively light, presenting a strategic window to commence physical rehabilitation works before rainfall increases again in March and April.

Muhidi added that the implementation of the R3P will be carried out in an integrated manner, involving coordination between district and municipal governments and the central government, including the mapping of financial support from regional budgets (APBD) as well as assistance from third-party donors.

The West Sumatra DPRD, together with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), has reaffirmed its full commitment to ensuring that all recovery stages are carried out efficiently and accurately.
