Sanur Village Festival 2025 Embraces the Spirit of “Guna Dusun” — A Philosophy of Knowledge for the Greater Good

SANUR –  The Sanur Village Festival (SVF) is set to return on November 7–9, 2025, at Muntig Siokan, Mertasari Beach, Sanur, carrying the profound theme “Guna Dusun”, a philosophy that emphasizes self-cultivation and the use of knowledge for the benefit of society.

Now in its 18th edition, the festival continues to be one of Bali’s most anticipated cultural events—uniting art, music, gastronomy, and sustainable living while celebrating the vibrant coastal community of Sanur.

Chairman of the Sanur Development Foundation (Yayasan Pembangunan Sanur / YPS), Ida Bagus Gede Sidharta Putra—widely known as Gusde Sidharta—explained that this year’s theme draws inspiration from the geguritan (poetic work) Selampah Laku, written by the late spiritual figure Ida Pedanda Gede Made Sidemen of Sanur.

Guna Dusun is more than just a phrase—it’s a way of life that teaches us to nurture ourselves with knowledge so we can be of service to others,” said Gusde during a press conference at Santrian Art Gallery, Griya Santrian Hotel, on Monday (Nov 3).

He added that the philosophy stems from Ida Pedanda’s reflection that he owned “no rice fields, only the field within himself,” symbolizing that one’s personal growth and wisdom are the true forms of wealth.

“He believed that filling oneself with knowledge is like planting seeds in our own soil—what grows from it should benefit the community. This message remains deeply relevant today, especially in our digital era where knowledge sharing can uplift others,” Gusde continued.

Unlike previous years that ran for five days, Sanur Village Festival 2025 will be condensed into three dynamic days, filled with diverse cultural and lifestyle activities.

The festival will feature culinary competitions such as lomba ngelawar (Balinese traditional cooking competition) with a coastal theme, a barista contest, fruit carving, and the debut of the Sanfest Sandikala Run, a sunset-themed community run.

On the music stage, festival-goers can look forward to performances by top local and national artists, including Navicula, Sandrina Malakian, Gugun Blues Shelter, Pongki Barata feat. Fatur, and Yovie & Nuno.

“We are also embracing emerging trends such as padel sports, art installations, and a photography competition to keep the festival fresh and engaging,” said Gusde.

More than a celebration, the Sanur Village Festival serves as a creative platform and a community-driven movement promoting cultural preservation and sustainable tourism.

“SVF is a reflection of Sanur’s spirit—creative, collaborative, and community-oriented. It’s a reminder that tourism must bring real benefits to the local people,” Gusde emphasized.

He further noted that the festival remains a symbol of Sanur’s resilience and openness.

“Since its inception, the Sanur Village Festival has been a testament that Sanur is alive, safe, and welcoming to everyone who wishes to create, contribute, and celebrate life by the sea,” he concluded.***
