BALI — As global travel patterns continue to evolve and competition among destinations intensifies, the Bali and Beyond Travel Fair 2026 (BBTF) returns with a strong message from Bali: the island’s tourism future must protect its cultural identity, strengthen market confidence, and generate sustainable economic value for local communities and ecosystems.

Scheduled to take place from 28–30 May 2026 at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua Bali, BBTF 2026 marks its 12th edition under the theme, “Redefining Indonesia’s Gastronomy Journey: A Celebration of Taste, Cultures, and Sustainable Heritage.”

This year’s event will bring together 407 buyers from 44 countries and 286 sellers representing four countries and 13 provinces across Indonesia, reinforcing Bali’s role as a strategic hub connecting international buyers, tourism businesses, cultural storytelling, and destination partnerships.

Bali’s tourism sector continues to show resilience amid global uncertainty, supported by expanding international air connectivity. In March 2026, Jetstar launched direct Sunshine Coast–Bali and Melbourne Avalon–Bali routes, strengthening access from Australia, one of Bali’s largest source markets.

Meanwhile, Virgin Australia announced direct Canberra–Bali services beginning 22 June 2026, while Indonesia AirAsia introduced a Bali–Da Nang route on 20 March 2026, further enhancing regional connectivity within Southeast Asia. From India, IndiGo has expanded access to Bali through its Mumbai–Denpasar service, complementing its existing Bengaluru–Bali route.

Chairman of ASITA Bali and Head Committee of BBTF 2026, I Putu Winastra, said improved connectivity should be viewed as a broader opportunity for Bali’s tourism ecosystem.

“Every new route to Bali brings more than passengers. It opens market access, strengthens hotel demand, restaurant spending, transport movement, creative economy opportunities, and wider exposure for communities and destinations across Bali. Our task is to protect the quality of our products and visitor experience, so that access can become quality transactions and lasting value,” Winastra said.

According to him, the development of new routes also underscores the importance of understanding tourism markets more strategically. While Australia remains Bali’s leading source market, India, Europe, Southeast Asia, and other Asian markets are becoming increasingly important through stronger destination narratives, relevant tourism products, and responsive partnerships.

For BBTF 2026, this trend reinforces the importance of a business-to-business platform capable of connecting market demand, tourism products, and destination readiness. International buyers today seek not only attractive products, but also service consistency, accessibility, safety, cultural authenticity, and trust in the destination experience.

This year’s gastronomy-focused theme also reflects Bali’s growing role in culinary and cultural tourism. Food, organizers say, has become one of Bali’s most powerful ways of communicating with the world — through local ingredients, traditional markets, family kitchens, farmers, fishermen, ceremonies, and hospitality traditions deeply rooted in Balinese culture.

Through gastronomy, Bali aims to demonstrate that tourism is not merely transactional, but closely connected to community life, cultural preservation, and sustainable livelihoods.

At the same time, BBTF 2026 carries a broader message about the need to safeguard Bali’s global reputation through stronger sustainability commitments and responsible destination management.

“Bali is a living culture, a home, and a responsibility,” Winastra said. “Preserving Bali as Bali requires better destination management, cleaner environments, stronger mobility planning, cultural respect, and a shared commitment from government, industry, communities, investors, media, and visitors.”

The official opening ceremony is expected to be attended by high-level Indonesian government representatives, including the Vice President of Indonesia, officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Wayan Koster, alongside international buyers, tourism boards, industry leaders, and strategic partners.

Organizers say the presence of senior officials reflects Bali’s growing importance as the face of Indonesia’s tourism diplomacy on the global stage.

“Tourism is diplomacy in motion,” Winastra added. “Every visit to Bali, every meal, every cultural encounter, and every meeting between buyers and sellers shapes how people understand the island and Indonesia. BBTF gives Bali the opportunity to build trust through real experiences.”

In addition to business meetings, BBTF 2026 will feature familiarization trips and post-event tours, allowing international buyers to experience Bali and selected Indonesian destinations firsthand. Organizers believe direct exposure remains essential for buyers to assess service quality, cultural depth, local readiness, and overall destination credibility beyond promotional materials alone.

Organized by ASITA Bali, BBTF 2026 will gather tourism boards, hotels, destination management companies, travel agencies, hospitality groups, tourism experience providers, government institutions, and strategic partners from Indonesia and abroad.

As Bali moves toward a more quality-driven tourism economy, BBTF 2026 is expected to serve as a key platform showcasing the island’s readiness through stronger products, richer narratives, deeper partnerships, and a greater commitment to sustainability and cultural preservation.***
